I'm an academic, working in a field which is not chemical engineering at a regional college affectionately and pseudonymously known as Great Northern. I'm here mostly so that I can communicate more efficiently with friends on LJ; I used to be one of the region's all-time great correspondents, but gainful employment and general adult life have cramped my style considerably (makes you wonder how Clarissa or Esther Summerson managed, when they didn't even have washing machines or prefab food.) But I'd like to meet some new people as well.

I'm interested in science fiction, and, to a very moderate extent, in TV fandom, though I'm pretty old-school about it (Star Trek, yes, Firefly, yes,Battlestar Galactica, yes; Highlander, Buffy, or Angel, no. But I'll read anything about books, and a lot of things about the sociological implications of weight, image, and body size, and most things well-written about people's personal lives (call it the basic nosiness of the novel-reader.) I also like birds, hiking, spiders, insects, and general nature documentaries of all varieties.
